Khamis founded Bahrain’s first fully-fledged locally-owned advertising and PR agency, Gulf Public Relations (GPR) in 1974. His local roots & knowledge combined with a global outlook have made GMG a leader in its field that continues to grow in strength. He has chaired and set up numerous bodies and associations aimed at institutionalizing the sector.

Media and marketing legend Khamis Al Muqla is president of the International Advertisers Association (IAA) Bahrain Chapter, as well as chairman and founder of Gulf Marcom Group (formerly Gulf Public Relations), and chairman of Hill & Knowlton Middle East. He is also a former chairman and managing director of Gulf Saatchi & Saatchi, and chairman, Middle East, Saatchi & Saatchi.

After his initial schooling in Bahrain, Al Muqla went to Bombay, India, to study Arts. Upon his return in 1971, Al Muqla started working as a journalist for the then-weekly newspaper Akhbar Al Khaleej. He also enrolled for a business course at Gulf Technical College – a move that would provide the basis for a spectacular career.

Al Muqla graduated in 1973 and a year later, at the age of 27, he founded Gulf Public Relations (GPR). In 1978 he launched Falcon Publishing, and it was not long before he moved from public relations into advertising and marketing.

In 1985 Al Muqla established the first specific public relations network in the Middle East as a joint venture with the internationally acclaimed Hill & Knowlton group. And in November 2001 GPR formed an alliance with Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide to develop the brand across the Gulf region
